Sell Your Stuff
A move is one reason to sell things, but if you aren’t moving selling your items is a great way to declutter your home. There are many avenues in which you can sell your items. How you go about selling your items depends on what the item is and if you are willing to ship. Different items should be sold in different ways, especially if you would prefer to make a fast sale or get the best price.
Yard sale
If you are up to the work, yard sales can be a good way to get rid of things you no longer need. You can advertise your sale by putting out signs, advertising in the newspaper, and listing it on various social media and local selling sites (see options below).
Local Selling Sites
If you do not want the hassle of doing a yard sale but do want to sell some of your items that hold more value, you can list them on sites like Craigslist, Next Door, Facebook and your city’s Buy, Sell Trade site. Please do be cautious when having people come to your home to look at items. Make sure someone else is around when you invite them to see the item. Have it outside or in your garage if possible so you don’t have them coming into your home.
eBay
eBay is great platform and works best if you are an established eBay seller with good ratings online. This works well for brand name items that are in very good or excellent condition, high value items or specialized and hard to find items. It is free to list on eBay however, they charge commission if your items sells. Since it is likely that your item will need to be shipped it is recommended that your items fit into a USPS flat rate box or envelope.
Estate Sales
The easiest way to clear a house after you move and take the items you want is to host an estate sale. You simply turn the keys over to a reputable estate sale company and they do all of the sorting, cleaning and pricing. They run the sale, clear the house and send you a check for your percentage of the profits.
Consignment
If you prefer to sell your higher value items but would like to get them out of your home faster be sure to look at consignment shops. Consignment is when a shop sells goods for an owner. The shop keeps a percentage and gives you a percentage after the items sells.
